Latin Dance Company

Guys, this is a workshop that you will NOT want to miss!

Why do dancers always use 8 count phrases?  What is Montuno?  When can I do my fancier moves?  When do I shine?  What is the Mambo section of a Salsa song? What instruments are part of Salsa?

In this workshop, by learning the structure of Salsa songs, the instruments and more you will learn to begin to dance WITH the music rather than 'TO' the music.  You will learn how to plan your patterns, styling and magical attention grabbing moves like dips, drops and tricks to execute them at the perfect moment, bringing you, your partner and the music into complete unity, even if you are executing basic steps!  You will learn the structure of a song, how to tell the difference between each section of a song and how to plan what patterns, steps or tricks, you will do and when!  When you understand the music that you are dancing to, you are able to become one with the song, taking your dancing to a whole new level!

NO Workshop on Wednesday July 3rd.

"I love Cassandra's classes in so many ways that I'm sure I'll leave something out, but here are the reasons that come to mind immediately:

1) My husband and I spent several hundred dollars on a "Ballroom introductory package" at an unnamed Charlotte  studio in 2009. The instructors were good, but the environment was so formal that it was hard to actually enjoy myself, and I quickly lost interest for that reason. NOT so with Cassandra and her classes. She keeps it casual, fun, and she has seemingly endless patience with those of us who are struggling with new steps.
2) Confession: I'm not a fan of exercise (especially cardio), but I love her classes. Who knew exercise and fun could occur simultaneously?! I'm not a ZX Fitness member, but if I ever decide to join a gym, it'll be ZX. The staff is great and they treat us wonderfully, regardless of our membership status.

3) I've met some truly wonderful people because of her classes.

3) Even my 17-year old daughter has developed an interest in Latin ballroom dancing since meeting Cassandra, and the classes are affordable enough that we can actually go on a regular basis. Admission- $5 per person; Wardrobe- $? (just dress comfortably); Quality time with your loved ones? Priceless.

Wednesday July 10th

Wednesday June 19th and June 26th - 2 Part Workshop

Spin Technique and  Balance for Dancers

In this 2 part workshop we will be covering the technique of various spins and turns both alone and with a partner.  You will learn about posture, weight placement, preparation, spotting, timing within both the music and your steps, lead & follow as well as how to master staying in line with progressive turns. We will be doing drills as well as including spins and turns in various basic patterns.  Dance shoes required.

So what do you do when you separate from your partner and you are both dancing solo?  (Other than get that terrified deer in the head lights kind of look?!)  Do you know how to improv when you shine or are you just doing a footwork pattern that you saw on You Tube (wink wink)?  Do you know when in the song is THE time do a shine?  COME AND LEARN!!

Fernando Sosa is known worldwide for his Salsa improvisation and now YOU can learn to improv like he does!  SOSA Style Salsa has now hit the Twin Cities and this 2 part workshop is the kick off to our World Mastery Fernando SOSA Syllabus!  Our Salsa shines workshop will be all about getting you to SHINE!  You will learn several shine basics that you can use to improv and create YOUR OWN SHINES when you are dancing alone and how to know what the music is telling you it wants!  Do you know how to listen?  All of this..... including styling or what to do when your lead wants to show you off! Shines are all about doing your own thing!  Footwork, styling, body rolls are all part of shines.  You are not going to learn a pattern but instead will learn TO CREATE YOUR OWN HOT shine to use when your lead wants to do a few steps apart and see you shine and shine a little, himself!  SOSA BATTLES..... HERE WE COME!

Wednesday July 24th and July 31st - 2 Part Workshop

Salsa Musicality

After a Wednesday night social...

"It was such a blast! The dancer, men and women, were just excellent. The leaders were very skillful, and easy to follow. They know many combinations of moves, and execute them without hesitation. You are obviously fabulous instructors! Everyone was so gracious, and everyone danced with everyone, so there was no one sitting on the sidelines. And the puppy is precious. I am thrilled to have found you! Thank you, and I will see you soon!!"
